His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai announced the transformational plan for the Expo 2020.

In line with the sustainability legacy of Expo 2020, Expo City Dubai will be a human-centric, pedestrian, and environment-friendly city with no cars or heavy vehicles.

Expo City Dubai will be an example of "soft mobility," which implies using buggies, scooters, bicycles, and public transportation to allow residents and visitors to move easily.

The new district will also be free of single-use plastic and home to more than 120 LEED-certified buildings, making Expo City Dubai a blueprint for 'green' urban planning.

Expo City Dubai will retain 80% of the infrastructure and buildings that have been constructed, compiling with the highest levels of sustainable design, construction, and operations and being the first WELL-certified community in the region.

The area will be equipped with 10 km of cycling tracks, 5 km of running tracks, and 45,000 sqm of parks and gardens.

The project plays an integral role in the future development of the Dubai 2040 master plan.

Sheikh Mohammed's office said: "The new area, which opens on October 1st, will be "driven by sustainability, innovation, education, and entertainment".

Expo City Dubai will house start-ups and small and medium-sized enterprises, such as DP World, Siemens, and many others.
