Following President's Orders, H.E. Dr Sultan Al Jaber to Lead COP28

H.E. Shamma Al Mazrui will be serving as the Youth Climate Champion and H.E. Razan Al Mubarak as the UN Climate Change High Level Champion

After serving two tenures as the Special Envoy for Climate Change, H.E. Dr Sultan Al Jaber will serve as the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) President-Designate.

H.E. Shamma Al Mazrui will be serving as the Youth Climate Champion to empower the next global generation's voice for Climate Action and H.E. Razan Al Mubarak as the UN Climate Change High Level Champion

The appointments were made following the orders of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Court.

Speaking on the appointments, H.E. Dr Nawal Al-Hosany, Permanent Representative of the UAE to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) said: With his vast experience in climate diplomacy, appointment of H.E. Dr Sultan Al Jaber as COP28 President-Designate is a well-deserved one.

"He is in the ideal position to leverage the long-standing synergies between IRENA and the UAE to scale-up our ambitions for a future powered by renewable energy solutions and advanced technologies."

“Together with H.E. Shamma Al Mazrui as Youth Champion of COP28 and H.E. Razan Al Mubarak as High Level Champion, UAE will convene an inclusive, solutions-oriented and comprehensive climate change summit.

"It will mobilise action from businesses, investors, organizations, cities, regions and all of civil society, including youth, in the run-up to, and at, the annual climate summit.

“With the energy transition reaching a crucial juncture, enhancing collaboration and cooperation with long-standing partners in the fight against climate change to spur climate action, is critical.

"Under the COP28 Presidency’s model of inclusive and collaborative leadership, the UAE and IRENA will work closer than ever to provide joint solutions to the biggest energy and climate challenges we face today.

“Both the UAE and IRENA have always understood the importance of investing in both the energy system of today, and the transition to the energy system of tomorrow.

"COP28 will provide the platform for the UAE and IRENA to take their efforts to deploy renewable energy solutions at scale, to the next level.”
