During the recently held Sustainability Middle East annual conference, CFO Middle East and Africa at DHL, Tobias Maier highlighted how different segments of businesses are working towards cutting down emissions.

To a question by Regional Expert on Biofuels, Karl W Feilder on this topic, Mr Maier said that the sustainability strategies vary with size of the businesses.

Karl W Feilder: Governments set net zero targets - but how far along are small and big businesses and individuals, in the region?

Tobias Maier: "It all depends on the individual situation and whether one can afford it. People who are aware of the issue, and can afford it - they go for green solutions, very frequently.

"In B2B setting, it is a different proposition. When you work for smaller enterprises, many of them will be tuning every Dirham, and very often consider whether they can consider to spend more on sustainable solutions.

"And in case of big corporates, who are aware of the issue and have similar ambitions like we have, aware of their reputation - they actively work on becoming more sustainable.

"We try to create and showcase solutions and get everybody involved to get the ball rolling."
