MoIAT to Sign Partnerships, Announce Regulatory Decrees Ahead of COP28

MoIAT will use Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week as a platform to reveal the details of new ventures aimed at tackling plastic pollution

The Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology (MoIAT) is gearing up for Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) 2023, being held from 14-19 January under the theme ‘United on Climate Action Toward COP28’.

As part of its participation, MoIAT will boost its local and international synergies, announce new decrees regulating the trade of recycled plastic water bottles aiming to enhance the sustainability of the industrial sector.

The ministry will oversee the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that will establish a national investment partnership to support the shift to a circular economy.

The ministry will also highlight its range of incentives and enablers including green financing for the industrial sector as part of the Make it in the Emirates initiative, which supports the localization of supply chains in line with the objectives of the National Strategy for Industry and Advanced Technology (Operation 300 Billion).

MoIAT will also showcase key programs that promote the adoption of Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) solutions in industry to enhance productivity, efficiency, competitiveness, and sustainability.

MoIAT Presents First 13 Technology Transformation Program Projects

The ministry will spotlight the UAE’s legislative framework, which enables advanced and future industries such as the manufacturing of hydrogen and electric vehicles.

The framework facilitates partnerships and integration between leading companies in the UAE and their foreign counterparts, many of whom are participating in ADSW.

Building a circular economy

MoIAT will use ADSW as a platform to reveal the details of new ventures and partnerships aimed at tackling plastic pollution through advanced recycling technologies in line with the nationwide shift to a circular economy and the UAE Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative.

Working towards COP28

In line with the Week’s theme and ahead of COP28, MoIAT will highlight a number of its projects and programs that offer effective tools to enhance the adoption of sustainable practices and leverage advanced technology to cut emissions, and drive climate action in the industrial sector.

In line with UAE Net Zero 2050 and under the umbrella of the Make it in the Emirates campaign, MoIAT will showcase promising investment opportunities in the UAE’s industrial sector to attract potential investors and encourage them to take advantage of the country’s competitive advantages.

MoIAT will also present updates and outcomes of its energy and water consumption efficiency programs that aim to regulate the import and local trade of appliances to improve their efficiency and reduce their carbon and water footprint.

To help advance the UAE’s renewables sector, MoIAT will highlight its regulatory system for solar energy and hydrogen-powered vehicles. The system is designed to help drive the use of clean energy solutions and support in decarbonizing the transport sector.

Furthermore, MoIAT will highlight investment opportunities in the UAE’s renewable energy sector, the advanced legislative framework for emission reduction, the National In-Country Value Program, sustainable financing solutions, the Technology Transformation Program.

Through Operation 300 Billion, MoIAT is transforming the UAE’s industrial sector into an engine of sustainable, long-term growth by developing standards and policies that will drive the circular economy and incentivize cleaner and smarter industrial production capable of meeting the objectives of COP28.

Active participation

MoIAT will participate in various events as part of its ADSW activities, including the Youth 4 Sustainability Forum, Women in Sustainability, Environment, and Renewable Energy (WiSER) Forum that empowers present and future generations of women sustainability leaders.
