UAE & Iran Sign MoU to Collaborate on Fighting Sand and Dust Storms

The United Arab Emirates and Iran will collaborate to fight sand and dust storm. Mariam bint Mohammed Almheiri, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, signed a MoU with Dr Ali Salajegheh, Head of the Department of Environment, Iran, on this in Tehran.

Ms Almheiri and Dr Salajegheh met at the Ministerial Meeting on Environment Cooperation for a Better Future. The event aimed to advance regional cooperation in tackling shared environmental and climate challenges.

Held in the presence of the Iranian President Dr. Ebrahim Raisi, environmental ministers from Middle East and Africa (MEA) region and representatives of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), NGOs and academia attended the meeting.

Four Key Climate Change Indicators Break Records in 2021

During the plenary discussion, Almheiri highlighted the UAE’s efforts to combat pollution, biodiversity loss, and climate change. She also participated in a ministerial roundtable that examined ways of stepping up regional cooperation in this regard.

As per the MoU, UAE and Iran will share experience and expertise, implement joint activities, and work together on developing a regional action plan to address the issue.

The scope of the MoU covers exchanging expert visits, setting up a joint task force, and leveraging the experience of relevant international institutions in early warning and forecasting to enhance preparedness.
