Saudi Arabia Partners with Alstom to Trial Hydrogen-Powered Trains

Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR) has officially kicked off its hydrogen train testing initiative in the Kingdom, marking a historic milestone after forging an agreement with the renowned French company Alstom.

SAR released a statement saying the operational trials and essential studies to adapt the hydrogen trains to the Kingdom's environment have commenced this month.

In September 2022, Saudi Arabia Railways inked a memorandum of understanding with the French rail transportation giant Alstom to develop hydrogen train solutions tailored for the Kingdom. 

Minister of Transportation and Logistics Eng. Saleh Al-Jasser, chairman of the Board of Directors at SAR, emphasized that this step is integral to the objectives outlined in the National Transport and Logistics Strategy.
